Level 4 PERSONAL TRAINER Course Overview
The Level 4 qualification is what allows you to work as a qualified personal trainer rather than a gym instructor. While Level 3 focuses on gym floor instruction, Level 3 covers client assessments, bespoke training programmes, nutrition principles, and advanced coaching techniques.
OriGym’s Level 4 course is CIMSPA-endorsed, Ofqual-regulated, and built around real PT practice as well as theory.
On completion, you’ll achieve the Focus Awards Level 4 Certificate in Planning and Delivering Personal Training (RQF), worth 10 CIMSPA CPD points, qualifying you for gym employment, self-employed PT work, and online coaching.
Unlike many providers, OriGym includes exams, certification, and tutor support within the course price, so you won’t face unexpected additional costs.
Modules include:
- Advanced Anatomy & Physiology: Skeletal, muscular, circulatory, respiratory, nervous, endocrine, and energy systems, plus posture and movement.
- Nutritional Principles: Macronutrients, micronutrients, digestion, energy balance, dietary guidelines, and exercise nutrition.
- Client Consultation and Goal Setting: Client screening, consultations, informed consent, and SMART goal setting.
- Programme Design and Training Systems: Programme planning, cardiovascular training, advanced resistance methods, and core training.
- Personal Training Delivery: Exercise instruction, coaching, communication, and session delivery.
- Professional Practice and Business Skills: Safeguarding, professional responsibilities, client management, and marketing.
Course Length: Study at your own pace completing theory online, while attending an in-person practical assessment (8 week average)
Entry Requirements: To enrol, you must hold a Level 3 Gym Instructor qualification and be aged 16+. If you don’t yet have Level 3, you can complete both courses as part of OriGym’s Personal Trainer Diploma.
Accreditations: CIMSPA-endorsed & Ofqual-regulated.
Benefits: No hidden fees, plus unlimited free resits.
Payment Options: Spread the cost with a flexible 0% interest payment plan.

No, you need a Level 3 Gym Instructor qualification before enrolling on a Level 3 Personal Trainer course. However, many providers offer combined Level 3 and Level 4 courses, allowing you to complete both as part of one programme.
At OriGym, we offer an accredited Personal Training Diploma which includes Level 3 and Level 4. This is the most popular route to become a personal trainer as not only is it cheaper than doing the individual qualifications, you’ll also get qualified much faster!
You’ll study advanced anatomy, nutrition, personal training delivery, programming, leadership, and business skills. Everything needed to succeed as a personal trainer.
The course is self paced, meaning you can take as long as you need to qualify and study around your current schedule. However, students take an average of 6 to 8 weeks to complete this course.
How long it takes to become a personal trainer through these study methods varies from student to student. For example, you may need to initially earn a Level 3 Gym Instructor Qualification prior to your enrolment.
