About the Course
By becoming a qualified teacher and assessor you can utilise the qualification as a secondary revenue stream around your existing PT client base or go full time as a lecturer with a college, training provider or University.

Course Length: Typically, this course takes around 6-8 weeks to complete
Entry Requirements: There are no qualification prerequisites for this course, however you will only be able to teach courses up to the level of fitness qualification you already hold. Students must also be aged 16 or older to enrol.
Accreditations: This course is accredited by both IREPS and CIMSPA.

To qualify as a fitness tutor and assessor you will be required to complete all the online course modules and coursework for both qualifications and also complete both a recorded micro teaching session and assess a rreal personal training practical assessment.
You will receive maximum support and assistance from our experienced and friendly personal tutors to ensure your assessments are stress-free and ultimately a great success.

The fitness teaching and assessing course is studied via blended learning, where you will get access to multi-award nominated platform 'Student Zone" for theory work and then attend practical shadowing days at one of three Ireland training centres.
This course is self-paced, and you can take as little or long s you lie to obtain the qualifications. You can start the same day you enrol and will work through the online modules via videos, online lectures, eBooks and interactive e-learning.
This study method is popular amongst OriGym students as it perfectly balances learning from home and attending regular practical observation training, fitting flexibly around existing work or family commitments.
What You’ll learn
The teaching and assessing course consists of two separate qualifications, the Level 3 Award in Assessing Vocational Related Achievement and the Level 3 Award in Education and Training. These two qualifications combined enable you to both teach on a 1-2-1 basis and group base classes, as well as delivering theory and practical based assessments.
Understanding Roles, Responsibilities and Relationships in Education
This course will develop your understanding on the importance of the student-teacher relationship and how to effectively manage and the role you play in students learning development. You will know how to create and sustain a safe and cohesive learning environment and affiliated teaching techniques used to create this.
Using Inclusive Teaching Approaches
The welfare of your all your students is your main priority and during the course you will be confident in making all students feel welcome, safe and included in your teaching sessions. Additionally, you will learn practical approaches to help facilitate the learning process during the planning, creating and delivering of your teaching sessions.
Facilitating Group Learning
You will study the theory of learning and how you can apply it to the teaching and assessment of groups. You will find out how to create conducive ice-breakers, perform inductions, create boundaries and guidelines to make an effective group atmosphere.
Principles and Practices of Assessment
You'll learn about the various types and methods of assessing students, how to plan assessment days, the requirements of you as an assessor, the regulations you have to adhere to, and how to manage the quality insurance process. You will also put these skills into reality when you shadow real personal training assessments and complete an assessment of your own as your final assessment.
OriGym's core ethos is qualifying top quality graduates and not applying extra charges that our competitors do, to getting where you want to be. Re-sits therefore are free for both theory and practical assessments. If, however you do fail a practical assessment and are an online student, you will be required to attend a practical workshop prior to re-booking for us to help you fully prepare for your re-sit. These workshops are held out of one of our national assessments centres in Dublin, Cork or Limerick.
On successful completion of the course you will receive an internal certificate within 2 weeks that you can take to insurance companies and employers to enable you to start work.
If you have paid the course off in full or are on a finance plan via Duologi your certificate will arrive within 6 weeks of course completion. If you're on a in-house payment plan and have not yet fulfilled the full course balance your certificate will only be posted when the remaining balance has been cleared.
Certificates are posted within 6 weeks of course completion, providing you have paid off your course balance. If you have a large package consisting of multiple qualifications, we may release qualifications early at OriGym's discretion.
To enrol onto a gym instructing, exercise to music, exercise referral, sports massage or a personal trainer course you need to be a least 16 years of age. If you're looking to move onto more advanced Level 5 courses, you need to be 18 years old or above.
OriGym allows individual course levels to be completed up to 2 years. If you have or looking to purchase a combination package of multiple qualifications this will mean you get 2 years from the moment you start each respective level.
For CPD fitness courses there is no expiry date, thus you can complete them as soon as you qualify or years down the line.
Health and fitness qualifications do not need renewing; however, government changes can influence the need for qualifications to be updated, this tends to happen every 15-20 years. In this instance you can come back and pay for the new modules you're missing.
OriGym is proud to not apply unwarranted additional fees for resources, certification, registration, examinations or re-sits. The only admin fees within our course packages are for when you book a workshop, assessment or CPD course and do not show up as you have prevented another student from attending. Aside from this, which is easily avoided by cancelling there is no other additional charges.
As soon as you have completed your relevant qualification and obtained the required insurance, which you can do over the phone and then you can start legally training clients.

It is not required to be qualified in first aid to become a personal trainer in a gym or freelance. Many providers include First Aid in their packages without giving you the choice, which inflates the price of the diploma. CIMSPA ensures standardisation of quality training across the industry and helps the general public make informed decisions to the quality of service they are purchasing.

OriGym will determine at point of enrolment the extent of your physical capabilities to ensure the course is a good fit for you. If we do not deem the course a good fit, we have the right to decline the enrolment on the grounds of being in the student’s best interests.
If you lose your certificate within 3 years of completing your course you can order a new one, but there is a 40 euro fee, plus postage to order a new one. If you lose your certificate past the three years you will need to request a new one from the appropriate awarding body your qualification was obtained via.

No specific insurance is required to be a tutor and assessor, however a EAA personal check is strongly advised to clear you to work with both children and vulnerable adults.
The teaching and assessing qualifications require you to be qualified in a discipline of fitness that you intend to teach / assess, whether that being qualified in exercise to music, gym instructing, exercise referral, Level 5 specific or personal training.

For the teaching course you will have to complete all the online coursework and submit a video assessment and achieve a pass mark.
The assessing course also requires the online coursework to be fully complete and signed off, but it comes with a final practical assessment which requires a pass mark.
